Introduction

While I’m pretty comfortable being in a leadership position, I wasn’t quite sure how my virgin Q would go. As I planned I thought maybe simple is better, easier to execute, harder to screw up. But then, it can’t be too easy…can’t have too much time left…what to do? Ahh…add to simple exercises our favorite hill and more reps than anyone would ever willingly sign up for, that should work…what ensued was a good old fashioned beat down.

Warm-O-Rama

The Thang

As YHC told the Pax to mosey to “One Tree Hill”, there were a few under their breath “ughs”, “great”, and I think even a “crap” thrown in. We all have experienced some pain on that hill and today would be no different. Of note, there were lots of additional “curb” warnings this morning after what happened on Monday (thinking about you Cheer Dad). Once we arrived at the hill I delivered the good news. Everyone knows how to do 11’s, but today we are going to 11 One Tree Hill with Merkins and SSH’s. Oh, and get it knocked out quick because we have other stuff to get to. GO.

I heard QT say on lap one or two “at least we didn’t have to do burpees at the bottom, would have been harder”. I laughed to myself because I knew what was still coming. By lap 5 or 6 mumblechatter was essentially zero as everyone was getting appropriately gassed. Once the Pax was done (way faster than YHC thought we would finish by the way) everyone moseyed to the football field.

One of the Cherokee guys introduced Super 21’s to the Pax early on after launch and it seemed to fit with the “simple but incredibly hard” theme for the morning. Super 21 is completed by doing 1 Merkin, 1 BBS, 1 Squat then 2 Merkins, 2 BBS, 2 Squats in increasing sets on up to 21. Cue the grumbling…begin. Light mumblechatter through the first few rounds which again ceased as what seems so simple starts to kick your butt. After rounds 1-10 Pax took a “break” with a mosey around the field. Back at it for rounds 11-15. Another mosey break. Back at it for rounds 16-18 (ouch) when we had to stop just shy because of time. Mosey to the cars.

With either the best or worst news of the morning YHC let the Pax know there was still a few minutes for Mary. Flutter kicks IC, LBC’s IC, and Freddie Mercury’s IC finished everyone off. 6:15 on the nose. As I stood up from Mary essentially the entire Pax was still laying on their backs groaning. Mission complete!

Circle of Trust

Count off. Name-o-rama. YHC took a little leap of faith and read the Pax a children’s book about a lighthouse that is anchored by scripture in Matthew 5: 15-16. The encouragement is that Jesus is our ultimate lighthouse, but he also calls us be bright lights in our communities so that by our actions we point people to his glory. That’s who we are, HIM’s, men of action. Don’t take lightly the platform we all have to make a difference to the lost.

Continued prayers for CheerDad, Yak’s son, and Swedish Ham’s son who has been struggling with regular headaches.

Naked Man Moleskin

YHC is appreciative for the support this morning, but also appreciative for what this group of men has meant to me over the last 6 months. YHC is becoming physically stronger, ever faster and able to keep up. YHC feels better, looks better, and has been generally better at life since I began getting physically right. WAY more importantly YHC has experienced acceptance, accountability, fellowship, friendship, community, and challenge…things all men need. Let’s keep striving to grow and provide as many men as the LORD will bring to us the opportunity to experience the same.
