Introduction

Happy April Fools day, gents! Possibly the greatest April Fools trick for me (a tenacious fighter by nature) where I am my own worst enemy and surrender is never an option is that surrendering to Jesus is how I overcome and defeat myself. Yes, I’ve mentioned this before. Believe it or not, it takes work. That’s why we met today. To get to work, beating ourselves in a “Fight Gone Bad”.

Warm-O-Rama

Not sure if I need to apologize for the open. My dominant thought going in to today was “I’m killing my flesh. I have to make myself tap out.” So I ramped up the warm-up pace a little intentionally and thought it fit to do so to a Viking Funeral Song, “Helvegen” by Wardruna. Mosey toward the darkest part of the park (the playground), 10 SSh, 10 PUs, 10 Situps, 10 Squats, 10 PUs, 10 Situps, 10 Squats, 10 PUs, 10 Situps, 10 Squats, 10 SSH. Mosey up to the playground for The Main Event!

The Thang

“Fight Gone Bad”

I originally heard of this with BJ Penn. MMA fights are my favorite sport and mostly 3 5 Minute rounds with one minute of rest between. So, we chose to do 5 exercises for a minute each, rest, rinse and repeat for our own 3 rounds of action. Pullups, then pushups, then situps, then squats, and the last minute of any fight is where the magic happens, so we chose burpees. Just when you’re enemy/opponent is gassed, tired, thinking maybe there’s a break, that’s when you pour it on. Nothing better than burpees for that last minute.

YHC chose a playlist to highlight the fight. After the Viking Funeral Song, we started with:
“Beautiful Pain” followed by. The name says it all…
“Wake Me Up” by Avicii (“Feeling my way through the darkness. Guided by a beating heart. I can’t tell where the journey will end. But I know where to start”)
“Hey Ya” by Outkast (shout out to all our HI-Ms…high impact M’s…those ladies that we need to be our best for…the song goes: “One, two, three! My baby don’t mess around. ‘Cause she loves me so. This I know fo sho! But does she really wanna. But can’t stand to see me walk out tha door. Don’t try to fight the feeling. Because the thought alone is killin’ me right now. Thank God for Mom and Dad. For sticking to together. Like we don’t know how.”
“Wanted Dead or Alive” Bon Jovi…we want that enemy dead or alive, right?
“Danger Zone”…needs no explanation
“Eye of the Tiger”…self-explanatory
And we didn’t get to…”Don’t let me down” By the Chainsmokers…(lyrics: “Crashing, hit a wall. Right now I need a miracle. Hurry up now, I need a miracle. Stranded, reaching out. I call your name but you’re not around.”)

Remember, its April fool’s day, right? YHC asked the PAX if we want to be average or CHAMPIONS!? The response was quite lacking. I assumed I just wasn’t loud enough and then a couple answered. Championship bouts are 5 5 minute rounds. We chose to go two more rounds and really beat our worst enemy into submission. Then we moseyed back to the shovel-flag for our COT.

Circle of Trust

Clearly there’s a theme here. SkyQ is doing a lot right now.

As George Washington said, “Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains to bring it to light.”

Vulnerability is incredibly difficult for me. But I’m trying to lean in and trust. “Nothing to hide, fear or prove” is the opposite of how I’m wired and diametrically opposed to how I’ve lived my life. I’m astonished as to how much fighting is a part of my DNA, my mindset, everything. Even when I think I’m leaning on Jesus I’m still living in my own strength, wisdom, depending on myself. Today, my jumbled words at the COT were me saying I need you guys. I need help and accountability making sure Jesus is number one and that my worst enemy, myself, is not sitting on the throne.

Remember to pray for Yak’s son. His MRI is today at 0930

Naked Man Moleskin

Yeah, I think its all been said.
