Introduction
It’s a Friday morning coupon special.
Warm-O-Rama
Mosey to far end of parking lot.
SSH 11 IC
Weedpickers 11 IC
Hillbillies 11 IC
Sobriety Sun Gods (In honor of Cheer Dad) 11 IC each side
At some point Commando and Abscess joined us late. Which is perfect. 7 coupons for 7 lucky HIM’s.
Mosey back to other end of lot to pick up coupons.
Run (with coupon) to stop sign on One Tree Hill Rd.
Build pyramid (sort of) with coupons. Once pyramid is built, time to start the Thang.
The Thang
QIC explained that we would be doing long distance elevens. Merkins and squats were the exercises of choice. We would do 1 merkin at current location (stop sign), then pick up our coupons, run up One Tree Hill, rebuild the pyramid, then do 10 squats. Grab coupons, run back to stop sign, rebuild pyramid, 2 merkins, pick up, etc. ad nauseum.
The only catch was that the pyramid had to be fully built before you could begin the exercise.
YHC knew this would be challenging, and it didn’t disappoint. The coupons are heavy. Period. Going up a steep incline with a coupon is unpleasant. Period.
At the halfway point, QIC instructed PAX to leave coupons at stop sign and finish the Elevens with no coupon. There was much rejoicing and sighs of relief. Although easier, finishing the Elevens was tiring, dig-deep sort of work. PAX did a great job of working hard and encouraging each other.
QIC was smoked after the Elevens were complete. Thankfully, there was just enough time for a slow-motion mosey back to coupons. QT instructed us to hide coupons behind Tennis sign. Then another slow-motion mosey back to flag for COT. Commando had some energy this morning and did a real mosey back to flag. More on that later. Abscess had to leave early for a morning Bible Study. So glad to have him back with us. So glad he’s digging into the Good Book.
Circle of Trust
The imagery from the morning wasn’t too hard to grasp. The burdens we carry around with us make life harder. Addiction, anger, unforgiveness, bitterness, pride, etc. The only thing those burdens do is slow us down and make us hurt.
It felt really good to leave our coupons to finish the Elevens. And it feels really good to leave our burdens at the feet of the One who can handle them.
Putting down our coupons didn’t make the rest of the workout easy….we still had hills to climb and energy to exert. But it did make it easiER. And that’s the point. Letting go of the things that weigh us down doesn’t make life easy, but it does make it easier. And it allows us to be more of the man that we were intended to be.
No man is made to walk around all day with a concrete block.
As always, we ended the COT with a shout out to the SkyQ and all He has done for us.
Naked Man Moleskin
YHC was impressed with the PAX this morning. Around lap 3, YHC looked over and saw GaDgEt busting it on the merkins…..excellent form. Lap 5, YHC looked up to see Shockwave busting his tail to get up One Tree Hill first. Lap 7, GoPro was verbally encouraging the PAX as he pushed himself way past the comfort zone. Lap 8, Abscess was in the lead, running with purpose and intent. Lap 10, QT busted it up the hill, giving it all he had to finish out the beat down.
And Commando was on it this morning. Not only did he do extra squats every round (and maybe merkins, but YHC was too tired to notice), but he also ran at the end when I could barely see straight. Kudos! You’re ready for your VQ!
Loved how we stayed together and got to work this morning.
