The snooze button can be tempting, but the more you hit it, the more punishment it delivers.

The Thang
YHC is on a peg leg and doesn’t move well, and honestly, still has PTSD around One Tree Hill, so this beatdown is staying in the parking lot!
During this six-plus weeks of recovery, let’s just say YHC’s alarm hasn’t been utilized much. So, with a 430 wake-up call, felt fitting to bring the ALARM to the PAX. ALARM is Arms, Legs, Abs, Cardio, Cardio (because ALACC makes NO SENSE). Knowing my PAX use the snooze button often, each ALARM is going to get a little tougher. YHC put his own HIIT spin on the ALARM, so each exercise is 40 sec on/20 sec off.
ALARM 1 – Laughs are plentiful and conversation is flowing as we welcome three FNGs to the asylum. We start with shoulder presses, followed by squats (a nice reminder of The Murph from Monday), BBSUs, and high knees. Final cardio is an Indian Run around the parking lot. YHC and the PAX are very impressed with our 2.0s, who absolutely crushed the run.
All seems great, but we hit that snooze button. So the next alarm is a little tougher.
ALARM 2 – Merkins followed by Lunges, American Hammers, Burpees, and then finally a Bear Crawl/Bernie Sanders/Bear Crawl/Sprint combo. Shout out to 2.0 Ronin, whose Bear Crawl was so fast, it inspired his nickname (more on that later)! PAX are a little less chatty and breathing a little harder, but still looking great. DON’T DO IT! Oh no, someone hit snooze again. Well, ALARM 3 is going to up the pain a notch.
ALARM 3 – Shoulder Taps, Squat Jumps, Superman Situps, Mountain Climbers, and a mosey around the parking lot. At this point, YHC is so incredibly impressed with the PAX and can tell everyone is focused and giving it everything they have, so for the fourth alarm, I have a surprise for them.
ALARM 4 – PAX Choice! From the previous three ALARMs, pick the arm, leg, ab, and cardio exercise you want to do. YHC usually picks the easiest when he’s healthy, but not this group of PAX. To see these men choose more Burpees, more Merkins, and more American Hammers has encouraged YHC to make better choices when he’s back to 100. One final lap around the parking to bring it home and this beatdown is done.
Or is it?
YHC was ready to call it, but the PAX said, “Cheer Dad, we still have seven minutes left, let’s do some Marys!” So YHC turned over the beatdown to the PAX and they led the Marys. YHC was so inspired by the hard work from the crew this morning, he took off his peg leg and joined the PAX for some (probably ill-advised) ab work. We ended with a two-plus minute plank and called it at 6:15.
Circle of Trust
With three FNGs, we have some business to take care of. Ragan had many options for a nickname, but with his last name sounding so close to Gucci, that’s what we chose. Ragan’s 2.0, Ronin, excels at jiu jitsu and bear crawls, so he will forever be known as Samurai Monkey. Commando’s 2.0, Duncan, gave so much on ALARM 1, he needed a breather, so we will nickname him next visit.
YHC gave an update on the broken leg/ankle surgery recovery and encouraged the PAX that we don’t need the world’s approval, God already approves of us. So as we go about our day, whether it’s at work, with our spouse, with our children, etc., remember that God loves us and approves of us, so do everything in honor and glory of Him, not the world.
Naked Man Moleskin
It was honor to be asked to be the QIC while on recovery. The second F is fellowship, and getting up early to be with the men of F3 West Cobb was such a boost for me emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. The F3 support these past six weeks has been tremendous and today God reminded me why He put me with this group. I don’t know when I’ll be fully healed and full disclosure, I wasn’t sure I’d come back when I am. But after today, I will be back. I need this.
